Cities across Europe are developing innovative approaches to support inclusion, strengthen participation and build services that respond to residents’ diverse needs. This collection of good practices offers practical inspiration from Bologna, Milan,Berlin and Vienna, showcasing how municipalities are addressing challenges ranging from data collection and evidence-based policymaking to community outreach and support for migrant women.

Drawing on real experiences from city administrations and local partners, these examples highlight concrete methods, lessons learned and transferability tips that can help your city design more inclusive and effective integration policies.

Training session ‘Building resilient city responses to population change’

🗓️Cities today are more diverse than ever, with migrants shaping local economies, demographic growth, and urban life. But this reality requires a shift: from short-term responses to long-term, strategic, whole-of-city approaches. But what does it really take for cities to build trust and deliver inclusive policies on migration?

Across the session, cities like Munich, Prague, Vienna and Fuenlabrada illustrated how this translates into practice, from housing pathways and integration strategies to participatory governance and communication approaches rooted in local identity.

Training session ‘Addressing women’s needs in local integration strategies’

Migrant women’s integration is shaped by a multitude of factors: legal status, socio-economic background, education level, language proficiency, family responsibilities, and exposure to violence.

👩‍🦰As a result, migrant women struggle to prove compounded discrimination, and the lack of disaggregated data renders their experiences largely invisible in policymaking.

Course ‘Co-designing migrant integration in your city’

This online course is designed for practitioners from local, regional, and national authorities passionate about developing collaborative integration policies. In only 5 hours, you’ll gain:

✅ Detailed guidance on creating participative integration strategies.

✅ Tools to ensure the meaningful involvement of migrants and refugees in policy design, implementation, and evaluation.

This course is one of the first of its kind in Europe. It covers the most relevant concepts for co-designing integration strategies, the different stages of the policy cycle and real experiences of collaborative integration policy from cities across Europe.
